Welcome to Cuttin Up Community Project. A place where community, opportunity, and empowerment come together. Our mission is to create pathways for individuals and families to grow through education, workforce development, community resources, and meaningful connections.

Brian Stepter, Sr Founder and Executive Director

Brian Stepter Sr. is a man who turned a difficult chapter of his life into a mission to help others

find a second chance.

After spending five years incarcerated, Brian returned home and experienced firsthand how

difficult it can be for someone with a criminal record to rebuild their life. Instead of allowing his

past to define his future, he decided to build something that could create opportunity not only for

himself, but for others facing similar barriers.

Brian had already established himself in the barbering industry and went on to build Cuttin Up, a

barbershop where he could use his skills and entrepreneurial experience to create opportunities

for people transitioning back into society. He began giving people who had been incarcerated an

opportunity to work, earn an income, develop their skills, and regain their confidence.

But Brian’s vision became bigger than a barbershop.

In 2018, Cuttin Up Community Project was established as a nonprofit organization in Phoenix,

Arizona. Over time, the organization developed into a community-centered space providing

reentry support, employment and professional-development assistance, food and nutrition

resources, barbering and cosmetology opportunities, and connections to other community

resources.

Brian believes that a person’s past should not determine their future. His own journey taught him

that people need more than a second chance they need someone willing to open a door.

Today, Brian Stepter Sr. continues building Cuttin Up Community Project around one simple

belief:

“Fresh Cuts. Fresh Starts. Stronger Communities.”

What began as one man’s effort to rebuild his own life has grown into a vision for helping others
